Company Worth Watching: The Local Crowd Wins a Crowdfunding Award
Larta CAP alumni company The Local Crowd (TLC) recently received the Crowdfundie Award at the Global Crowdfunding Convention in Las Vegas. The Crowdfundie Award recognizes TLC’s innovative and impactful efforts to bring crowdfunding technology and education to local, rural communities as an economic development tool. The Local Crowd targets the rural small business market, which is typically underbanked and underfinanced. In conjunction with community hosts, TLC provides education, support and hyper-local tools to connect local businesses and organizations with the capital they need.
Co-founders Diane Wolverton and Kim Vincent accepted the award at a VIP event at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. “We are super excited to receive this reward — on behalf of all The Local Crowd communities!” Wolverton said. “TLC host communities have been working very hard to launch this tool. Each community creates an ecosystem where people understand crowdfunding and show up to support each other’s projects. It is very gratifying to see this work recognized!”
The Local Crowd also specifically credited Larta Institute as part of their business support system that provided resources and technical support in a celebratory article on their blog.
A Crowdfunding Success for an underserved community The Local Crowd connects local businesses to a reward-based crowdfunding platform that provides rewards for donors or investors, and much-needed capital for expansion in rural communities. The Company provides locally-based crowdfunding software, consultation, and mentorship through webinars, seminars, workshops, retreats, and classes.
As of 2017, The Local Crowd is hosted by community economic development groups in 12 states, whose residents have used the platform to raise $172,000 from over 1,700 supporters for their businesses and organizations.
We are proud of the accomplishments of this dynamic duo, and are proud of the work they continue to do in under-served rural America. Larta is committed to this goal and look forward to working with The Local Crowd and others in fulfillment of this mission.
