7 Larta portfolio companies win Tibbetts prize

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) presented twenty-three small businesses in June with the Tibbetts award, an honor recognizing the technical innovation, business impact, and broader social and economic benefit a company has achieved throughout the year. SBA supports innovative entrepreneurs through its Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, which accounts for approximately $2.5 billion in federal research and development funds. Out of the 2014 Tibbetts Awardees, seven Larta portfolio companies were honored:

  • Actuated Medical, Inc. - Designs and develops minimally invasive instruments for MRI-guided procedures 
  • Eldertide LLC - Certified organic processor and manufacturer of standardized nutraceuticals
  • IRIS Media, Inc., dba IRIS Educational Media - Online software to help families solve domestic and social problems
  • Mainstream Engineering - transition advanced thermal control and energy conversion technology into commercial products
  • Novan, Inc. - Clinical stage drug development and commercialization of nitric oxide- based products
  • Parion Sciences - Therapeutic treatments for respiratory and ophthalmology diseases
  • Sentient Corporation - Tools to predict the weariness of remanufactured components for industrial machiney 

The companies all received commercial market acceleration and one-on-one mentor support from Larta, provided through various national-scale Commercialization Assistance Programs (CAPs) Larta manages for the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, and United States Development of Agriculture.
